Cricket Club News - July 2006

A reminder: this year's annual cricket match between Amport and Grateley will take place on Sunday 9 July starting at 1.00 p.m. The match is being played on the Amport pitch, there will be refreshments available and spectators are more than welcome. Do come along to watch this local needle match.

The 1st XI have had a reasonable start to the season in the Hampshire League. Two games have been lost to the weather, two wins against Havant and Longparish and two quite narrow defeats at the hands of Shrewton and Pywell Park (a lovely ground near Lymington). The Longparish match was also much closer than we expected after Amport amassed 214 for 9 and then took 5 early Longparish wickets. The opposition had other ideas and made a spirited come-back, but the 20 runs needed from Leighton Bone's final over proved too much. The 2nd XI have also had a good start to the season, winning both of their last matches comfortably.

The club did not enter the Village KO this year, but has entered a new 20-20 tournament, the regional finals of which will be played at the Rose Bowl (Hampshire's new ground) in July.
