Cricket Club News - October 2006

The 2006 season has now come to a close on what has been a successful year for the club. The 1st XI, who were relegated into County 3 of the Hampshire League last year, have held their own against some good opposition, done lots more travelling and finished 10th out of the 18 teams in their league.

The 2nd XI however has done exceptionally well. They needed to win their final match against Farley to secure promotion. It was a nail-biting finish with our oldest and youngest player at the crease, needing 8 runs with only one wicket remaining. With great assurance, the last pair steered Amport to a memorable victory and a new league next year.

A marvellous occasion took place on the last Sunday of the season, with over 30 of our colts pairing up with their parents in 4 simultaneous matches. This was followed by presentations of coaching awards to many of the boys and trophies to the most promising and dedicated colts. The only real winner on the day was cricket and the future of our club.
