Four Parishes Arts Society - March 2003

Forty people enjoyed the Magic Lantern Show given by Mervin Heard at our January meeting. On 11 February, David Beeson gave a very interesting talk with slides on Aggressive Plants. I can't name all the plants involved in this space as there simply wouldn't be room! However, I will make a printed list for future meetings so we can refresh our minds. Meanwhile, watch out for Couch Grass and Knap Weed or there will be a takeover bid where battle and stress is rife!

The meeting on 11 March is the eagerly awaited 'Chinese Brush Painting with a Demonstration' at Quarley Village Hall. This is to be given by the artist Pauline Cherrett, who has inspired many people to try this deceptively easy technique. In this case the answer lies in the choice of brush and a steady hand. Pauline is a great speaker who has talked at many art societies. If you are interested in painting and effects, don't miss this.

Would those members and friends who are interested in visiting the garden of David Beeson on Thursday 22 May please add their names to the list provided. Details and a map of Andover Down will be given later. Also a list sheet will soon be available for the outing to Wilton House on 10 June, with further details.

Finally, we have been invited to join in with Test Valley 2003, which for us will take place at Quarley Village Hall on 8 June. This is a great opportunity to display your work and will take the place of our usual exhibition in November. So with this in mind please put your brushes and skills to work for June. We now have a membership of 74 and this will give our new members a chance to exhibit. - M.W.
