Four Parishes Arts Society - May 2003

The speaker for the April meeting, Amy Dennis, was unwell and unable to give her lecture. David Bucknill saved the evening, giving a talk with slides about the Madonna and Child. This is a subject that David has been working on for some time. He showed how artists' perceptions of the Madonna and Child have changed over the centuries both by concept and colour. It really did give food for thought and awoke people to look into these works of art and not just at them.

The meeting on 13 May at Monxton Hall should be really interesting to all, as Mr. Steadman knows just about everything there is to know about the restoration of Wilton House. This is of course designed to be followed up by our visit to Wilton House on Tuesday 10th June. which starts at 11.00 a.m.

The main outing of the year is Hidden London on 2 September. Information for this trip will be available at the next meeting, please see or ring Veronica on 771285. As we approach London, a guide awaits us and she will have organised coffee and a place for lunch, usually the Barbican, plus all the creature comforts. Veronica will produce an information sheet which will reveal more of this very interesting day.

Please remember our Exhibition on 8 June and get your entries in by the previous week. Art from the Junior Schools of Amport and Grateley will be on display: this time their work will be selected from groups of each year. - M. W.
