Four Parishes Arts Society - May 2004

In anticipation of our visit to Kew in June, our talk this month was on the history of Kew Gardens. We were extremely fortunate to have a real expert in the person of Laura Ponsonby, who has worked at Kew for 23 years and has astounding knowledge of all aspects of the gardens. She gave us an enthralling talk covering not only the history of the gardens but also an insight of what is in store for us on our visit. All this was illustrated with excellent slides. This very valuable information will give extra meaning and direction to our tour, especially as she guided us through areas which could easily be missed. We shall have three guides to steer us through the gardens on Tuesday, 8 June. The coach leaves Amport Green at 8.30 a.m.

Our Annual Exhibition on 19 June is at Monxton Village Hall with Strawberry Teas in the grounds of Veronica Rushworth-Lund's house behind the hall. David Bucknill would appreciate it if exhibitors would return completed forms to him as soon as possible.

Veronica Bacon has a few spaces left for the visit to Kew and the one to Tyntesfield and Dyrham Park on 31 August. Anyone who is interested should contact her a.s.a.p. on 771285.
