Four Parishes Arts Society - June 2005

Quarley Village Hall was the venue for the May meeting of the society when Margaret Beale gave us a talk and demonstration of contemporary embroidery and cutwork with the soldering iron. Using synthetic materials she bonds layers and cuts with the iron, so avoiding the time-consuming task of cutting with tiny scissors and trimming frayed edges. The work she showed us was stunning and very inspiring. Many members 'had a go'.

Margaret learnt the craft at a City and Guilds course and over the years has perfected the techniques she has herself discovered by experimenting with the soldering iron. She has written a book about her work, which is due to be published in the autumn, so look out for it!

Next month's speaker will be Wendy Jelbert and her topic 'The Wonders of Water Colour'.  Wendy has taught for thirty years, written countless books and writes articles for the Leisure Painter Magazine. She is presently running courses from her studio in Lymington. The meeting will be at 8.00 p.m. at Monxton Village Hall; don't miss it.
