Amport School

Amport School was founded in 1815 by Sophia
Sheppard, a local resident, for the education of local children and still has
representatives of the Sheppard Trust on its governing body.
The school is now a voluntary aided Church of
England primary school catering for up to 84 children from the age of 4 – 11.
Pupils are taught in four classes. The catchment area of the school includes
the villages of Amport, East Cholderton, Monxton and Quarley, along with some small outlying
settlements.
Currently the school admits 12 Year R pupils
each September and there is usually a waiting list for occasional vacancies for
older children. The two most recent OFSTED reports have been very pleasing.
Music is a particular strength of Amport
School; opportunities for various sports are offered and after-school clubs
flourish. There is a very active PTA.
Pupils progress to a wide variety of local
secondary schools, nearby grammar schools and to private sector schools.
School involvement with the Parish Church and
the local community is considerable and many volunteers from the community help
within the school.
