Amport School Travel Plan

Amport School is in the process of putting together a school travel plan.

What is a School Travel Plan and Why is it being produced?

It is a document produced by the school community that looks at how children travel on the journey to and from school, as well as setting out a number of aims or targets.

A school travel plan helps schools to encourage children and staff to walk or cycle, to be healthier, safer and aware of their environment.  It is a whole school initiative that involves pupils, staff, parents/guardians/carers and the local community.

As a result of the survey, Amport School has acknowledged the fact that there is an issue with congestion around the school gates, there are concerns with children walking and cycling on the local roads, without pavements and designated cycle lanes.  The speed that the cars travel on the local roads is also a concern and the number of cars coming to and from school.

Once the School Travel Plan has been approved by Hampshire County Council, it can be used by Amport School to bid for funding. It also contributes to the School’s Safety education programme and is considered by ‘Ofsted ‘as part of its regular inspection programme.

The overall responsibility of the School Travel Plan lies with Mrs Grave, the Headmistress.  She has appointed a team of volunteers

The team are currently looking for any more suggestions of how such issues as listed above could be improved.  Over the next few weeks these ideas and suggestions will be formulated into a travel plan which will in turn be presented to HCC.

We would welcome any feedback you may have. Comments and suggestions can be forwarded to either myself or directly to the school.

Many thanks,
Julie Douglas.
Clerk to Monxton Parish Council.
