I have just tried to complete the VDS, but I can't. I've just realised that I only ever go to Amport to vote, usually faced with a list of people I've never heard of. I don't know where any of the 'facilities' are. I don't know anything about the buildings or the landscape or recent developments, and yet I've lived in the Parish for 8 years. Despite that, I'm not even in the catchment area for the school. The reason? I live north of the A303 - it might as well be the Berlin Wall. We are the only house in this road to be in the Amport Parish, the others being in Appleshaw from whom we get the Church Mag and Parish newsletter ARC. So, one wonders, why wasn't the boundary changed when the road was built? Whilst not really in any village, we are nearest to Appleshaw and Fyfield, quite near Weyhill and Kimpton, not too far from Penton; but Amport?A real struggle. If the A303 Sarson Lane exit is closed - and from the number of deaths (and the photo in Talkback) I imagine it's on the cards, we will get completely cut off. That must be the time to change the Boundary.

I commend the VDS initiative. I am very keen on retaining the character of Hampshire villages, but I'm afraid I can't help.

On a somewhat unrelated matter, if we ever have to vote for the Parish Council again, could we have some cv's and information about motivation?

Good Luck! Sad

Thank you for your post.

At the boundary review last year, no changes were made for a variety of reasons. Not least of these was that surrounding parishes were not interested in changing their own boundaries.

I agree that Amport Parish has many illogicalities, and, when the next boundary review takes place - some years hence - it would be a good idea to be ready with cogent arguments.

Interestingly, we receive the Thruxton Parish Council newsheet as the west half of our road is in Thruxton and we are in Amport. The nearest church is in Fyfield but we get requests for support from Weyhill. Confusing and illogical Confused Shocked

I have little or no contact with Amport and its Parish Council and it would be interesting to know if anyone is specifically tasked with representing the "East Berliners" Laughing
