Four Parishes Arts Society - March 2004

This month's meeting at Quarley was a demonstration by Elizabeth Nash, a local artist from Broughton, who specialises in painting on silk. She gave a slide show of her work including banners which were commissioned for the Salisbury Cathedral Festival and some from the church in Broughton which were designed and worked by the villagers including the children. These can be viewed during Test Valley Open Art week. Some of these banners were as large as 9 feet in length. She also showed us some of the many techniques used when painting on silk.

The next meeting "The Life of a Stonemason", which was scheduled for 13 April has had to be postponed to 20 April (still at Monxton Village Hall). Would members please try to pass the word around!

Looking forward to the summer, it has been decided not to join Test Valley Open Art exhibition this year, but to have our own Exhibition on a smaller scale. This will take place on 19 June in Monxton Village Hall. Veronica Rushworth-Lund has very kindly agreed to our having a marquee in her grounds adjacent to the hall where we shall serve strawberry teas. We hope that our members will start to make plans to exhibit on that day.

Visit to Kew Gardens on Tuesday 8 June. A reminder to members that completed forms with cheques should reach Veronica Bacon by Thursday 6 May. If there are any queries, ring Veronica on 771285.

Tyntesfield and Dyrham Park Visit on 31 August. Forms and cheques to reach Veronica by Friday 23 July. National Trust members will need to present their membership cards on the day.

As was mentioned at the last meeting, four members of the committee are due to retire at the AGM in September. If any member feels that they could spare some time to help with the running of the society, please do get in touch with one of the committee members. (No artistic talent is required! !) - PMG
