The
names and contact details for the Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators in each of
our four parishes are published at the front of Parish News together with the
Police telephone numbers.
Our local Police Officer is PCSO David
Trowbridge, who can be contacted by telephoning 101.
Judy Venables has taken over Keith Puttock’s role as NHW
coordinator for Quarley.
Neighbourhood Watch News
Risks of Crime
A glance
back at the crimes reported for the Four Parishes over the last 12 months shows
over 25
criminal incidents (non-dwelling and dwelling burglaries, other thefts and
criminal damage) and 10
suspicious sightings. Certainly these are not statistics to suggest that
household vigilance can be relaxed.
It is also
very clear that the public is subject to increasing numbers of clever and
plausible scams. It
would be impractical and tedious to send out (and for you to receive) alerts
about each type of incident
we hear about – but their variety and frequency do underline the need to
remain alert on this
front also and to be suspicious of any unsolicited, unexpected or unusual
incident.
Our Police Team
We still
await the replacement for PC Roger Kitson. In the meantime our PCSO David Trowbridge
provides cover as before. We met our new Police Sergeant, Russ Hodges, a few
days ago and
were pleased that he will support our previous practice of close and informal
contact with our
beat PC (when he arrives!). In particular Sgt Hodges emphasised that we should
not assume that
small unusual or suspicious incidents would not be worthwhile reporting to the
police (via the 101
non-emergency number) because we can’t know how useful such information might
be as part of
their greater information jigsaw.
Postscript for Amport Residents
At last
year’s Amport Parish Council AGM I gave notice of my wish to be “pensioned
off” as Village
NHW Coordinator after 2012/13. It is very pleasing to be able to report that we
have a volunteer
to take over. Jo Stewart has recently moved into the village with husband Fergus
and baby Seb.
Being unfamiliar with Amport will represent an initial difficulty but, as I
found in 1997, this
is not insuperable. Her contact details are shown on the front page of this
magazine.
Finally I
would like to express my gratitude for all the help and support that I have
received over the
last 7 years from the Amport NHW team, Amport residents, the other Four Parishes
Coordinators,
and our local PC and PCSO, and to wish Jo Stewart good luck, and a light
workload!
