Bus Shelter at The Hawk, Amport.

Now that Stagecoach has changed its schedules and practises, this shelter is currently redundant. As it is very centrally placed in the village, the Parish Council is anxious to find some good use for the building and it is likely that reasonable funds could be found to support any project which wins favour with the community and Council. If anyone has an idea of how this shelter can be of value to the community, please contact our Clerk, Suzanne Hoare (771469) or Chairman, Ian Morrison (771174).

Bus schedules.

By now, all bus users will have noticed that the service provided by Stagecoach has been drastically reduced. This is an unfortunate casualty of the austerity measures we are currently suffering and Hampshire County Council's resulting negotiations with Stagecoach. All our neighbouring Parishes are having this problem and we are acting in conjunction with them to achieve the best possible compromise.

Our first action will be to negotiate as hard as we can for some of the services to be reinstated and when we have established what this will be, then we will no doubt be looking at various ways of adding to the service ourselves in whatever ways are practical.

At this early stage, it would be useful if all Amport residents who are adversely affected by the changes would write/e-mail/phone the Parish Council to explain their particular requirements so that eventually we can assess how best to overcome their problems.

Goal Posts - Amport Village Green

One set of goal posts on the Green are now back in place for the football season but we have not replaced the posts at the East end as it is felt that one set is sufficient. If there is anyone who thinks that it is important to have both sets in position, please contact us.

Jubilee Jamboree !

Amport Parish Council has decided that on Saturday 2nd. June 2012 there will be a major celebration on the Green to honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee since none of us were here to celebrate the one in 1897 and it is unlikely that any will be here to enjoy the next one! As it is Olympic year as well, we think the theme should incorporate a series of light-hearted team games and races involving all parts of Amport and Monxton, fancy dress for all, and music from the massed bands of Amport and Monxton. Please keep the day free
- It will almost certainly be half-term - and we will be looking for volunteers/organisers very soon.

Roadside Ditches

The Highway Authority has a prescriptive right to drain the highway to adjoining roadside ditches. Rural roads rely to a great extent on ditches to remove water, it is essential that they be kept in good condition. In the majority of cases, the responsibility for ditch maintenance lies with the adjacent landowner. We have recently received complaints from landowners that some people have been dumping their garden waste into some of the Parish ditches and this, of course, causes drainage problems for the property owner and some of the neighbours. Potential flooding of properties and the highway can naturally result and we would ask everyone to dispose of their garden waste in a more legitimate and considerate way.

Bus Shelters - North of Parish

It has been brought to the Parish Council's attention that the two bus shelters in the North of the Parish (at the start of Fairways and by the Weyhill Fair site) are beginning to fill with rubbish. The four other shelters in the Parish are kept clean by a local volunteer and we are looking for someone who lives nearby to look after these on a fortnightly or 'as required' basis. The Parish will pay £100 per annum for this service and will any volunteers please phone our Clerk, Suzanne Hoare, (771469  or e-mail to suzanne.hoare@btinternet.com)

Suggestions for Community Project - North of Parish

Amport Parish Council is quite rightly regularly reminded by the local Councillor that very little of the precept is spent in the area to the North of the Parish. We have tried for many years to create a playground but this has so far proved impossible. We are now asking if any resident of the Parish has any thoughts on how we can redress this problem by letting us have suggestions for any community-based project. Please send any idea you may have to our Clerk, Suzanne Hoare (tel. 771469 or e-mail suzanne.hoare@btintrernet.com).

Roadside Litter

I am sure that most of you will have noticed recently how much litter is lying on our roads. This is very depressing when we are so lucky to live in such beautiful surroundings and, if something is not done soon, the problem is likely to deteriorate as road users will have no compunction in adding to the blight. To counter this, Amport Parish Council has bought three ‘litter pickers’ for anyone in the Parish to use so that the area near them can be kept litter-free. One is held at the School, one with Suzanne Hoare (771469), and one with me, Ian Morrison (771174). Please ring whenever you would like to borrow one, or even make up an expedition and borrow all three.

There will be no training, no uniform, no gloves and no sacks issued – we are not asking the advice of H&S, European Human Rights, or doing Risk Assessment ! Just volunteer if you are at all concerned. The problem can be solved far faster and more efficiently than could be achieved by T.V.B.C or the courts. IM
